Meeting reviews final draft of MDGs report (undp uae news)

ABU DHABI — At a high-level meeting, officials reviewed the final draft of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) report prepared by the Ministry of Economy. The meeting chaired by Abdul Qader Al Musawi, Director of the Planning Department of the Ministry of Economy (MoE), reviewed the accomplishments and progress achieved by the UAE according to the millennium goals that have been adopted at the Millennium Summit held in 2000 at the United Nations. The MDGs include fighting poverty, hunger, disease and elimination of all forms of discrimination against women. Other representatives at the meeting were from ministries of health, interior, education, social development, energy, and foreign affairs as well as National Federal Council, Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies, Federal Environmental Authority, UNDP, Higher Family Council, Environment Research Authority and Women General Union.

 

People pledge to remove poverty: 18 October 2007 Khaleej times

DUBAI — About 86, 179 people across schools, labour camps, banks, private sector, NGOs and corporate organisations in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Fujairah and Al Ain stood up and pledged yesterday against poverty and inequality.
They joined Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the ‘Stand Up and Speak Out’ campaign in the four emirates, joining millions in urging their governments to remove poverty. DUBAI — Millions of people around the world are expected to “Stand Up and Speak Out” in support of the UNMC Millennium Development Goals today and tomorrow, committing to end poverty and inequality by the year 2015.
In the UAE, organizers expect that thousands of children, men and women from various institutions and organizations will pledge their support to eradicating poverty and inequality as they “Stand Up” for 2 minutes in their own locations and send in their numbers to make a Guinness World Record, breaking last year’s record of 23.25 million people who “Stood Up” on the same day.
