Double UN honour for Shaikha Fatima: 23 April 2007 Khaleej timesABU DHABI — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) yesterday honoured Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, with certificates of appreciation for her continuous support to women’s empowerment in the UAE. Training course on gender and its relationship to development: Reem Al-Hajri (UNDP UAE News)Started at the General Women's Union yesterday morning activities of the training course on gender and economy, which is organized within the courses and training programmes organized by the Women's Union in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme on gender and its relationship to all aspects of community development, within the project "national initiatives to integrate gender in the UAE. " The session Dr Sheikha Al-Shamsi, head of the center of the Arab citizen and development, with a group of women leaders and men of Various departments and government institutions and private sectors. The aim of the session which will last for two days to publicize the concept of gender, and the impact of development programmes and projects in both women and men, and their contributions to these projects, and to identify the causes of disparities in economic opportunities between women and men and how to address them, and to achieve justice and equality between the two sides and control over resources and benefit from them. The course focuses on the economic empowerment of women in society, and increasing their contribution to economic development, and to identify the impact of economic restructuring in the level of women's social, and economic conditions to be addressed, such as poverty and inflation rates and income distribution, and the impact of all this on women's access to resources, and will provide session at the conclusion of a series of reports on entrances, policies and approaches to address issues of women in development the UAE, will also proposing recommendations through which the integration of women in development, and propose action statistics and indicators of the kind of social help to establish a database. It is noteworthy that the draft Gender Mainstreaming in state and national issues involving women in these efforts have been launched by the Women's Union directives of His Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the Supreme Family Development Foundation and President of General Women's Union, in the context of the efforts of Her Highness and support for women and the UAE enable it to perform its role effectively in Community development, and awareness and education, to contribute to building community in all areas.
