In March 2006, the General Women’s Union (GWU), in partnership with UNDP UAE, embarked on an intensive outreach programme to engage the public and private sectors in effective gender mainstreaming. The project is articulated around capacity building of the main women’s organizations through sensitizing and exchange programmes between women’s organizations as well as the public and private sector.

Trainings has been provided to 26 government and non-governmental entities for the purpose of facilitating the incorporation of gender-sensitive dimension into their policies and plans. The National Gender Mainstreaming Initiative represents an opportunity for reinforcing awareness on the National Strategy for the Advancement of Women in the UAE and on Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), through the conduction of workshops and the distribution of publications and material (UAE National Gender Mainstreaming Initiative).
